🗞️ Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro - joined by Brazil’s President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva - has again demanded that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro publish voting papers from last month’s contested presidential election.
Petro called for an end to both repression in the country and the sanctions currently imposed on Venezuela.
The Colombian President has also proposed a repetition of the election, and suggested that Maduro’s party and the opposition could rotate power or rule in coalition. The proposals have reportedly been dismissed, both by Maduro and Venezuela’s political opposition.
Maduro has named his new political crackdown ‘Operation Knock Knock’, routinely sending his security forces to the homes of perceived opponents, often at night. Well over 2,000 opposition members and protesters have now been arrested, according to the United Nations.
