Journalism at War

From the archives: an interview with Nubia Rojas, researcher & author at the Truth Commission

A long-form podcast interview with Nubia Rojas about journalism in conflict, and how journalists fell victim to - but also took part in - Colombia’s civil war.

We dug into the historical (and ongoing) relationship between the media and the political elite, PR for paramilitaries, journalistic revolutions, and corporate takeovers.

This interview was recently re-released via the Colombia Calling podcast - the Spotify version embedded here has ads and this week’s headlines - also available on Apple and wherever else you get your podcasts

Nubia is a journalist and researcher who has worked on conflicts across the world both as a correspondent and an analyst, working for the United Nations, Doctors without Borders, and Oxfam - as well as numerous Colombian media outlets.

She authored a chapter of the final report of Colombia’s Truth Commission – a historic publication which was the outcome of an unprecedented investigation into the causes and consequences of Colombia's internal armed conflict – the final report was the result of nearly four years’ work and tens of thousands of interviews.

This interview was first released in September 2022.
