🗞️ A new initiative to replace compulsory military service with social service has come into force in Colombia. 

 Under the new system, ‘Social Service for Peace’, one year of service is still obligatory for young men, but they can now select one of eleven alternative ways to serve, including rural literacy, combating climate change, and peace-building. 

Men exempted from compulsory military service can apply on a voluntary basis, as can women. 

🗞️ Two Colombian combatants have been found in a Russian prison. The pair were returning to Colombia having fought for the Ukrainian army for nearly a year, and stopped in Venezuela - where they were seemingly extradited back to Russia.
